“Getting the small picture” Partie 1: Questions

Television comes to me? “ because he doesn't need to be at home in his sofa to watch TV, he can watch it everywhere with his cell phone, even at work. The continuing success of DMB technology could transform and give a boost to the market because Korea's telecom industry have to develop special channels, chips and mobiles. Korea is currently ahead of Japan in this field because Japan started using DMB one year later, and that it's not for cell phones but requires specific installations (special terminals or in cars for instance). Concerning Europe, Nokia is working on the project of its own TV mobile, and about the U.S.A a firm is working on Media FLO ( a TV service). But both services are at least a year away from going on line. The main target for mobile TV is young Koreans, who represent an important percentage of mobile TV's customers. Obviously, programming undergo changes. Indeed, in addition to the ordinary channels, Korea television's industries have created new one which is especially for mobile phones. On this channel there are shorts programs less than ten minutes long, information on the traffic, and soap operas at lunchtime. Furthermore, scenes are filmed using closer shots for better visibility to the viewers. To watch TV on their mobile, people can buy a Samsung SCH B1000 DMB phone at the cost of $800, furthermore LG Electronics introduced a similar model. Then, customers have to pay $13 per month for the DMB service. In 2004, TU Media spent nearly half a billion dollars on a satellite to broadcast seven videos and 20 audios channels. To develop the DMB technology, TU Media will have to adapt his product to the market, and improve his technology to stay at the top of phone TV's industry.
