I/ History

Sydney’s history started at the prehistoric time. The zone which surround Port Jackson (Sydney Harbour) was an aborigène territory for 40 000 years. Although the urbanization destroyed most of these tribes, it still stays almost more of 100 tools, justifying de presence of aborigènes. Sydney is renowned to have the best reserved tools’ collection of the world.

At the end of the 1800, with a canal construction in Alexandria (South-West oh the city) we discovered the vestige of an aborigène camp estimate to existed since 7 000 years. Discoveries, more recent, near the Glenbrook grotto in the Blues Mountains, at the West of Sydney, show the existence of aborigènes.

II/ The Europeanize

The first interest of the Europeans for Australia was grown with the Botany Bay’s (an actual borough of Sydney) discover in 1770 by the captain James Cook.

III/ The rush to gold

Australia known lot of rush to gold in the 1900, the first was the gold discover in Bathurst (at the West of Sydney) in 1851. a lot of immigrants disembarked in Sydney and the population passed from 39 000 to 200 000 habitants during 20 years. Out of 1850 and 1860, infrastructures, rails transports, port etc were built in view of the growth of the population. After a growth period, the discover of the gold in the Victoria State started the exodus of the Sydney’s habitants to Melbourne and began a big rivalry into the both cities. Boths of the cities wanted to became the capital but the rivalry stopped with the creation of Canberra which is the capital today.

1) Sydney Tower
The Sydney Tower measure 305 meters and in 1996, it was the more elevated monument of the South hemisphere (but now it is the Auckland Tower in New Zealand).
In Sydney, you can see the tower in all of the sites of the city.
