* In 1909, Charles Kent directed the first movie adaptation of the same name play of Shakespeare : A midsummer night dream. The original thing is that It is a silent movie. - Max Reinhardt directed, in 1935, a movie adaptation of A midsummer night dream. It won two oscars : Best cinematography and best film edit. Furthermore It has been highly acclaimed by criticism.
- In 1959, the Czech Jiri Trnka directed an animated movie based on the play however it is kind of a puppet show. An English version dubbed the movie. Trnka, did not developp the homosexual character of the movie but this is probably due to the communist system of then. It won several awards including the Prize of the Technical Committee in Cannes and an Honourable Medal at the Venice Film Festival.

Woody allen inspired himself of the Shakespeare play especially for his movie’s title. However, It is not very faithful to the play. - A midsummer night dream It is an American adaptation of the Sheakespeare play by Hoffman which came out in 1999. The action of the play was transported from Athens, to a fictional place located in the Tuscan region of Italy, although all mentions on Athens were retained, at the end of the 19th century.
