III. The current actions of the FSA and our recommendations
So the question is how the FSA protects public health and the interests of consumers in relation to food?

1. Currents actions
Thefirst tool the FSA uses to protect public health is a traffic light label that gives you advices to help you make healthhier-choices quickly and easily. This labelling system is very useful when you're ina supermarket looking at two similar products, trying to decide which to choose. You want to make the healthier choice but you're in a hurry. So the label could help you! Look for products withgreen, amber or red coloured labels on the front of the pack. If the flood you are thinking about buying as low, medium or high amounts of fat, sugars and salt, helping you get a better balance. It helpsyou to get the overall balance right. The FSA's traffic light colour-coded system, developed after research, gives consumers a useful tool to help with healthy food choices. The FSA conducts regularresearch to evaluate how consumers are using the traffic light system. This helps it to assess the value of this approach and to make ongoing improvements. The FSA uses science-based evidence abouthealthy eating and food to protect consumers and public health. It also uses existing market research about food consumption produced by organisations such as MINTEL as well as conducting its ownresearch. The FSA carries out market research with consumers, producers and retailers to identify ways to educate the public health about diet and food issues. RED: it means that it contains a high amount offat/ sugar or salt. Eat this food only occasionnally. AMBER: medium fat, sugar or salt. It's an OK choice but green is even better GREEN: low amounts of fat/sugar or salt.
