Gandhi
These facts show how much Gandhi, during this period , lost his Indian identity.
The picture of Gandhi taken in 1931 show us a different Gandhi than the one who studied abroad. Indeed, he is wearing the traditionnal Indian clothes, like a loincloth. We can also notice that he isn’t wearing anymore a top-hat. As a consequence, we can say that gandhi has evolved from a European style lawyer to an Indian person profile.
Gandhi has expressed ,during his lifetime, his will to give India Independence. He wanted to remove power from the hands of the British. He thought the way British ruled India was not correct, he disapproved all the taxes they had to pay on essential products, the most famous tax is the one on the « Salt » which is among the fundamental elements of Indian dailylife. Salt was available in India and easy to collect by the people without paying anything. Furthermore, He thought the nation should be ruled by itself and not by another country or Empire. Even though he was opposed to british Government, he never became violent. Moreover, Nonviolence or « ahimsa » was one of his major principle.
During his demonstrations, he said to the crowds to stay calm and not to turn violent towards the soldiers. Nevertheless, it didn’t stop some Indians to attack Bristish soldiers which led to Indian Deaths.
Although Gandhi was not violent, He found ways to bother the British. For example, he told Indians not to buy british products and to burn every British clothe they had.
This type of actions is called : « Social Disobedience ».
Gandhi also promoted self-sufficiency which was a maneer to show the British their own economic
