I. Presentation
This document is a photo, it was taken during a show of “American Idol” and the photographer is unknown, but it’s not really interesting to know who has take this photo because know or doesn’t know change nothing on the analysis of the document. We know only that it’s a photo about a group of people who are singing during a TV show.
II. Description
In the foreground, we can see a group of people who are singing, there are six girls and just behind four boys. The boys are dressed exactly similar and the girls wear some clothes a little bit sexy, especially two girls to the left of the picture. Some of them have the hands up and don’t sing anymore; therefore we can see that is the end of the song.
In the background, we can see the sentence “American Idol” in large print. It’s an American entertainment about music like “Nouvelle Star” in France.
III. Interpretation
If it’s the end of the song, they take on break for the photo. Therefore, it’s a symbolist picture because first of all, in this group, there are white, black and “Latino” people; it’s symbolized the racial mix. Then, we can say it’s a symbolist picture because we can notice for example that the big black man reminded to the US rapper “Big Ali”, the black man to the left look like to the famous singer “Akon” and the two girls to the left are the caricature of the new singers who are sexy but not specially very bright. So we can wonder if they try to come in a “case” for make like others.
