In today’s society, politics are taking a huge place, indirectly influencing the life of every citizen. Unfortunately, even if we are in a democratic country, people often complain on the deputy they voted for. Well it’s not really surprising when you listen to the rumours of corruption going on in the last months. Some of the things actually have been proven, like the fact that Liberal party tried to buy popular deputies from all around Quebec, just like the one from our own county, François Bonnardel. Today, Jean Charest is facing something even worst, leading him and his party to the end of their reign.
Even if he has been re-elected, Charest is now unfortunately in contempt in face of all Quebeckers. He’s accused of : ‘’having pushed for the appointment of three judges to please Franco Fava, a prominent Liberal fundraiser...’’.¹ This inquiry is called the commission Bastarache and it could become as devastating as the ‘’commission Gomery’’. The main witness is the former justice minister, Marc Bellemare, who really had a bad reputation when he was in charge. His testimony has been also full of contradictions, he could not give exact dates of meetings or even the names of the other person possibly involved. He also couldn’t tell why he waited so long to talk about something that happened in 2003, but affirmed that it was a scandal involving moral values. We all know who the public is going to vote for in that kind of confrontation, because, even if David is wrong, no one would like to take for Goliath.
