More than 50 percent of the Canadians are either obese or overweight. It is not only in Canada the rate is so remarkable, in United-States it is about 60 percent. This issue is impressive: obesity despite of smoking is the greatest menace to Canadian public health, in addition it is the second highest a cause of death in the population. Healthcare Cost relate to Obesity are enormous, for instance united-states’ healthcare expenditure are evaluate up to $147 billions of direct and indirect cost. Experts predict that in 2018 those cost reach about $347 billions. There is many various factors that keep increasing the rate of the phenomenon through the population. By the key factor it is now our environment is changing. The population is becoming more and more sedentary and constantly increasing the portion of their meals. There’s an imbalance between caloric taking by day and the activity done to burns those calories. The price of vegetables and fruits has risen at more than 40% and soda price has fallen at 33 % over the last 30 years. People are eating cheaper and faster and doesn’t want to spend extra-money for eating better. A normal person take in two week more sugar than someone had eat in a whole year a century ago. What the society or the government can do against that alarming problem ? Canada can introduce a tax based on the British government model who had impose a 10 percent tax on unhealthy food. The United-State are calling this “ fat” tax. Canadian can promote and put emphasis on a healthier lifestyle and banish junk food advertising.. etc. The government have done this before with cigarettes.
