Ana is thirty-five (35) years old. She is a Mexican, so she was born in Mexico. Her hometown is Puebla. She has two children who remained to live in Mexico. The elder daughter, angel who is thirteen (13) years and the second, misa who is seven (7) years. She is divorced. It is an immigrant. She left Mexico to arrive to the United States illegally in one thousand nine hundred ninety five (1995).
She decided to leave because she and her family were very poor. Her living conditions were bad. They lived all in a slum. Her working conditions were also very bad, she had a small salary. That’s why; she lived below the poverty line. She couldn’t buy to herself the bare minimum (clothes, food, and the rent). She chose to go in United States because they have a common border with Mexico. She crawled in a drainpipe, but she had to pay $1.000 to a smuggler. She managed to cross those United States and to settle down in New York where she has relatives. They are going to help her to find some work. What attracted her as a lot of people, it is the American dream. That is, a good work with a better salary for so, to send the money to her family stayed in Mexico.
Ana lives now in the United States. Her standard of living is thus more brought up than the one that she had in her country of origin. She earns gain 50.000 dollars a year and doesn’t pay taxes. She works in a laundry woman in Manhattan. She works 12 hours by days during 6 days. Her salary is $200 a week. To compare with her work in Mexico, she earns eight times more that if she worked in a factory of sock. She becomes her own boss. However she is a prisoner because, she lives without papers. We can consider her as brave, because she cannot return to her country to kiss her children.
She re-knows that she got to like the beautiful life. She knows that she has to give a part of her salary to her family to make them live. All this prevent her from leaving the United States.
