The Empire State Building is a Art Deco skyscraper in New York City at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and West 34th Street in the district of Midtown. Inaugurated on first May, 1931, it is threehundred and eighty one meters tall ( for hundred and forty three , with the aerial ) and has one hundred and two floors and seventy three elevators. His architects are Richmond Harold Schreve, WilliamLamb and Arthur Loomis Harmon.

It stood as the world's tallest building for more than 40 years, from its completion in 1931 until construction of the World Trade Center's North Tower was completedin 1972. Following the destruction of the World Trade Center in two thousand one, the Empire State Building again became the tallest building in New York City.
The Empire State Building is currentlythe third tallest skyscraper in the United States (after the Willis Tower and Trump International Hotel and Tower, both in Chicago), and the 15th tallest in the world.

The Empire State Building is acharacteristic building of the New York skyline, and counts among the most famous symbols of New York, in the same way as the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

The summit of the building is enlightenedaccording to the various events of the calendar as for example , during Saint Patrick's day the color chosen is the green or too during Valentine's day the color is red.
