The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is a sovereign state located on the north-western coast of continental Europe.
It is an archipelago including Great Britain, the north-eastern part of the island of Ireland, and many smaller islands. Northern Ireland is the only part of the UK with a land border with another country, wich is theRepublic of Ireland. The UK is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, the North Sea, the English Channel, and the Irish Sea.
It is a country consisting of four countries: England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales.

The UK was the world's first industrialised country and the world's foremost power during the 19th and early 20th centuries. But there are an economic declineafter two world wars, the United Kingdom began to lose its competitive advantage and heavy industry declined.
The UK is a developed country, and has a partially regulated free market economy. Based on market exchange rates, the UK is today the sixth largest economy in the world and the third largest in Europe after Germany and France.
The currency of the UK is the pound sterling. London is a majorcentre for international business and commerce and is the leader of the three "command centres" for the global economy (along with New York City and Tokyo).
It is a Member State of the European Union, a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, and a member of the Commonwealth of Nations, G8, G20, NATO, OECD, the Council of Europe and the World Trade Organization
It was on 1May 1707, that the united Kingdom of Great Britain was created by the political union of the Kingdom of England and the Kingdom of Scotland.
In the 18th century, the United Kingdom played an important role in developing Western ideas of the parliamentary system as well as making significant contributions to literature, the arts, and science. The UK Industrial Revolution transformed the countryand fuelled the growing British Empire. During this time the UK, like other great powers, was involved in colonial exploitation.
But in the 20th century, the nation suffered an estimated two and a half million casualties and finished the war with a huge national debt.
And the United Kingdom was one of the 12 founding members of the European Union
At the geographical level, the UnitedKingdom is an island country, surrounded by the North Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. It's situated on the West of Europe. It's divided into four parts : the home nations, which are Great Britain and the Northern Ireland. Great Britain contains the England, the Scotland and Wales.
Every home nations is divided into various governments, of which Lieutenant-Lord is appointed by the queen, and managesvarious specific zones through the Kingdom.
Next, there are approximately 1100 islands which compose the United Kingdom, of which some were created by the man off the Scotland and off the Northern Ireland, as Lundy, Island Farne, which belong in England, or Shetland wool in the Scotland.
For the relief, England has a highly varied of it, so as the level of the North and in the peninsula ofCornwall. No summit exceeds 1000 m of height, and it is Scafell Pike which peaks in 978 m, which is the highest summit.
The Thames is the main river of England, with Severn, which is the longest stream of the United Kingdom.
It is near the city of Dover that Great Britain is connected in France by the Channel Tunnel.
