All the elements were rounded up to form the perfect funeral. Everyone was gathered in a perfect circle around Sam’s grave, conveniently equipped with large umbrellas. The clouds showed up too, and God was taking a leak all over the place. There weren’t too many people there, but that was probably because there weren’t too many people who remembered exactly who Sam was. He kind of disappeared after college and never called his old pals once. His new friends, if any, were nowhere in sight that day.

Clyde had been in college with Sam, some ten years before. Beside the distraught family, he recognized only three people from the old days. At least there were some who had heard of Sammy’s untimely demise. It didn’t surprise him that they were the three that used to hang out with him and old Sam.

What had happened to Sammy? That was what Clyde and surely everyone else was left wondering. He ran off a decade before and came back in a box. Presumably his body didn’t arrive in mint condition because there had been no viewing.

It was a pretty short ceremony and ended in this very simple manner. Some chose to leave flowers, some left letters, and others stood and stared down the hole in the ground. Clyde walked a few steps and reunited with his long-lost friends.
