Positive points : - mass tourism ( 483 000 expected in tourism )
=> means nearly a half million people were able to buy food ( and drinks ), to rent hotel rooms, maybe rent cars… whatever, the point is that those people, who certainly were middle income and high income people from all over the world, they stayed for at least one month in South Africa and so they must have spent a big amount of money, and we could think that this investment was going to be beneficial for the South Africans
- way to create jobs ( workers to build the stadiums )
5 stadiums were built and 5 others were updated => thousand of workers must have been employed in order to finish building them in time
- changing the way the world see the country ( poverty, HIV… )
You might already know that South Africa is a country that is still nowadays suffering from important social and human issues such as poverty ( approximately 45% of the population is living in poverty ), HIV ( infection rate among adults estimated at 20%, 5 million people ), and unemployment rates ( 40% of the population ),and these facts are just an outline of the situation in South Africa, the so called "rainbow nation" surely expected the world cup to change the way the country is seen abroad.

- 23% less tourists than expected ( only 373 000 ) talking about tourism, the fact is that all the local shops and the street traders in an area of 1km around the stadiums were forced to leave the place to the shops owned by the FIFA. unfair

=> between july 2009 and july 2010, 111 000 jobs disappeared.
