2- The Main Character a- The main character is Mary Ann Singleton, she is twenty-five years old and she works as a secretary. She is from Cleveland, Ohio. (23 words) b- She is in San Francisco, California for an eight-day vacation. c- Mr. Lassiter is the owner of Lassiter Fertilizer. He is Mary Ann’s boss. d- Mr. Lassiter appreciates Mary Ann very much: l.25 “(…) he said the office is falling apart with you gone.” e- She wants her mother to call Mr. Lassiter for her to let him know that she won’t report back to work as scheduled after her vacation. 3- The Mother a- She is a loving mother (“darling”). She is also over-protective as she can’t fathom the idea that her daughter won’t be back from her vacation. She is also narrow-minded (l.50 “a bunch of hippies and mass murderers”). Finally, she is over-imaginative because she keeps thinking that something terrible will happen to her daughter.
