I/ THE CITY

Dublin is the capital and the biggest city of Ireland, located in the middle of the east coast of the country. It is situated at the mouth of the River Liffey which cuts through the lowlands and flows into the Irish Sea.
Dublin County is the most principal business district, financial, trading, industrial and administrative centre on the country.

1) What about the city

The city has a population/density of 4,398/km2, for an area of 114.99 km².
Dublin’s temperate climate is characterised by mild winters, summers, and an absence of extremes temperature.
Dublin is twined with Barcelona (Spain), Liverpool (GB), and San José (California, USA).

2) The economic situation last years

The county of Dublin accounts for 1.3% of the landmass of the state, and includes the administrative areas of Dublin City, South Dublin, Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown and Fingal.

Dublin played a leading role concerning the economic growth for the whole Irish country (with its principal leading sectors of the Irish economy; software, electronics, financial services, tourism…) particularly during the 15 last years; Ireland knew a spectacular economic growth which called the “Celtic Tiger years”.
The performance of Ireland and its capital city is based on different factors; a strong social partnership, and the over 506,112 people of urban population of Dublin centre (the county has a population of 1,187,176 in 2006) knows a very positive demography (Ireland is the youngest country of Europe).
Dublin County itself is home to 615,000 workers, and to Google’s EU, Ebay’s European, and Yahoo’s European headquarters.

The Dublin City Region accounts for over four out of every ten jobs, just under half of all goods and services produced and nearly half of Ireland’s tax revenue.

Dublin had the highest Gross Value Added per person at €48,580 in the country compared with the national average of €34,468.
