Introduction
First at all the modern capitalist society encountered problems to assure sustainable development about pollution which is proved by the markets and develops negative effects
At the begining, sustainable development was defined into the Brundtland report in 1987 (who was the name of the Norwegian prime minister). I quote this report “Development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the hability of future generation to meet their own needs”
I) Different meeting about Sustainable Development
The Earth Summit took place in Johannesburg in 2002. It was organized by United Nations Organization (UNO). There were more than 100 heads of states in this summit.
The goal of Johannesburg’s Summit was making an assessment of the last summit in Rio. For the sustainable development there was a plan of action about : consumption, poverty, natural resources management.
They wanted an economic development with a respect for environment and a concern for the health and the law.
French President Jacques Chirac proclaimed a pessimist speech. I’ll quote one sentence : “Our house is burning and we are looking for somewhere else”.
Promulgated in 2005, the Environment Charter has a constitutional value. It is in the French preamble constitution, he has a strong value in French law.
Jacques Chirac and Nicolas Hulot were the orinators of this Charter.
His goal is to give everyone the right to live in a clean environment. However they have to protect it.
This pact wants to influence individual and collective behaviour, the consumption and production methods.
One of the measures taken is the principle of precaution. It’s a measure about a risk against public health.
The Environment Grenelle was launched in 2007. The French State and Civil society worked together in order to put in a new action about sustainable development in France.
