History of the Palace
The Palace was built in the 14th century and formed part of the Manor of Ebury. At the beginning of the XVIIIe century, the Palace is that a large hotel was built for John Sheffield, the sixth Duke of Buckingham. 1 King George III takes ownership in 1761 to his residence. The following years, the Palace was enlarged by various British architects. In 1837, during the reign of Queen Victoria, the Palace became the official residence of the sovereign. It is still enlarged during the XIXe century and at the beginning of the XXe century.
The Palace today
The Palace has more than 600 parts and a large Garden to the rear, the largest private garden in London. Currently more than 600 people including cooks, housekeepers, plumbers and gardeners working for the Palace.
There are 775 parts and 78 bathrooms. Nearly 50,000 people go there every year as guests. The current British sovereign, Élizabeth II, lives there. She is always protected by the Royal Guard of the Palace.
