HISTORYIn 1488, the Portuguese Bartolomeu Dias explored south africa, and in 1492 it’s Vasco De Gama who goes to south Africa, they call it first “Cape of Storm” and later king of Portugal change it to “Cape of Good Hope”.
In 1652, Jan Van Riebeeck established the Dutch East India Company. They have lot of native living in the Cape, it’s why slaves are sell to Indonesia, Madagascar, and India to work at the colony.
In 1795, Great Britain took the Cape at the Dutch East India Company, but in 1803 Dutch East India Company recapture the Cape.
In 1867, diamonds are found and in 1884 gold are found, to follow up it great number of Europeans come to south africa.
In 1800-1801, happened the first Boer War, he opposed the british at the dutch, at this moment british had the Cape again but they lost the war. And in 1899 begin an other war but this time it’s the british who won the war in 1902.
On may 31 1910, was the union of the Cape and the Natal, and yhe Orange Free State and the Transvaal. This is the born of two Boer Republics.
APARTHEID
The apartheid is an Afrikaans word who signify “separateness”, it’s a political system who separed the black and the white people, the black people are majority in south africa but it’s the white who have all the powers and who govern the country.
Apartheid was establish in 1948, it’s the product of the history and particulary the fact of Europeans recused there Europeans roots and want there Africans roots. Many laws against black people were made, for exemple: black and white people are not allowed to get married, black people can’t vote, black people can’t own lands, etc …..
The Africans dislike the Afrikaans because it’s the first language of apartheid government and of the black people not.
