I - Introduction
Today, we’ll talk about the 48th of the 50 that make up the United States of America: Arizona. The state of Arizona is located in the southwestern region of the United States. The capital and the largest city is Phoenix. Arizona is one of the Four Corners states as Utah, Colorado and New Mexico. It borders these tree states but also California, Nevada. It’s part of the Sun Belt. Arizona means “the small spring” in Indian. The motto of the state is “God Enriches” (“Ditat Deus” in Latin).
II - Geography
The state of Arizona has an area of 295 260 km² and 5 130 632 people live there. Arizona is divided into 15 countries. The state is very famous for its desert landscape, which is rich in xerophics plants such as the cactus. The terrain is very rugged and composed mainly by mounting. Winters are mild whereas summers are really hot. The main rivers are the Colorado, which has carved the Grand Canyon, the Gila and the Salt River.
III – History
To introduce the topic, the first habitants of Arizona were the Native Americans. In 1539, Marcos De Niza explored this state. Spain imposed his colonial power until the mexican independance in 1821. Then, the 14th February of 1912, the Arizona became the 48th state of the United States of America.
IV – Monuments and national parks
The famous places to visit in Arizona are:
* The Grand Canyon National Park which is located in northwestern Arizona. The Grand Canyon was carved by the Colorado River in the plateau of the same name. Founded in 1919, the park covers an area protected by 4 927 km ². It is visited annually by more than four million visitors. The diversity of nature and landscape of the region has been recognized World Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 1979. A remarkable animal is present on this site as many species
