WELCOME TO GATTACA

The movie “Welcome to Gattaca” is an anticipation movie. Vincent is one of the last "natural" babies born into a sterile, genetically-enhanced world, where life expectancy and disease likelihood are ascertained at birth. Myopic and due to die at 30, he has no chance of a career in a society that now discriminates against your genes, instead of your gender, race or religion.

Gattaca is a disturbing movie because it presents us with a futuristic society where nothing is left to chance and everything is calculated.
In the beginning of the movie we see the principal character Vincent rubbing himself, which is assumed to be an attempt to eliminate any tracks or traces of DNA.
We are introduced to the Gattaca Company by a voice over in the language of esperanto. It is in fact a center for studies and space research. To enter Gattaca, DNA and urine tests are required to verify if you are genetically “well” and not a “child of chance” who could have some form of disease.
In the first few minutes of the movie we notice that this highly technological society practices large-scale eugenics.
This movie is a story of two brothers. Anton, who was born “in vitro”, is genetically optimized to succeed. The other, Vincent, is a “child of chance” and thus genetically bad. We follow Vincent though the process of identity usurpation, which leads to the introduction of Jérôme Morrow. Jérôme Morrow is a paraplegic, further to an accident, genetically selected and therefore able to help Vincent enter Gattaca by giving him his blood and urine in order to deceive the scientists. So we can notice that the first characteristic of Gattaca is perfection.
At Gattaca chance is banished and only performance is counted. Moreover we find this fact in the title itself, because the letters G, A, T, and C make reference to the four nucleotides which constitute the structure of DNA. Furthermore, the sequence GATTACA appears several times in the human genome.
