Grading : Examination 50% Continuous Assessment 50% NB: You need to score 550 to pass your TOEFL next September. - “Speech”: in pairs, an oral presentation of 10 minutes maximum + typed summary of 100 words (+/- 10%) to be submitted at the beginning of the presentation. Subject: take a mundane object (e.g. a paper clip) and imagine other uses for it. Present it as a product that you are selling (NB: top secret until the presentation). Oral /20: Grammar/6 + Lexis/7 + Pronunciation/7 Written /10: Content/5 + Form/5 - VT = Vocabulary Tests (cf. “200 most common TOEFL words” issued at the start of the course) - CP = Cross - Cultural Project. In pairs, an oral presentation of 15-20 minutes maximum + a written report (TOEFL/TWE format: of 250-270 words - not more than 1 page!). Subject: compare one cultural aspect in 2 countries from 2 different continents. Deadline for the written report: 6 April, at the beginning of your oral presentation. Oral /20: Individual /10 (Lexis/3 + Pronunciation/4 + Gramm/3) + Group /10 (Interest – i.e. Culture- /8 + Team /2) Written /20: Grammar/4 + Lexis/4 + Cohesion (Linking Devices)/4 + Content/8 Coefficients for Continuous Assessment: CP=1 Speech=1 VT=1 (2x0.5) OCC*=1 *[Other Continuous Assessment work, ie. extension work]
