Burglar in hot water.This is an article from a British newspaper called « the Daily Mail » about the incredible story of quite a peculiar burglar. This burglar called Gary Rickard and his way ‘to work’ is very amazing. He didn’t like hurrying, he liked to take his time.
Indeed 34 year-old Gary Rickard breaks into houses or shop, particularly jewellery shop, with the view of burgling or raiding them. However, before plundering and running away, this well-know criminal always decides to have a good time. So when he breaks into house, his first aim isn’t to steal everything. He prefers take advantage of all the devices of the house. That’s why he usually makes himself comfortable: he gives himself a treat with food and alcoholic drinks, turns on the stereo, switched on the fire and a relaxing bath…
Gary Rickard turns on the music so loudly that he doesn’t hear the police. He is so cheeky that, when the police arrive he warns them not to come into the bathroom. When they arrived into the bathroom, he told “Don’t come in, I’m having a bath”. He even complains about the lack of comfort of the houses he has occupied without being ashamed of his demand!
Moreover, we learn that being jailed for breaking the same house every weekend. Gary was released. The owner oh the house, Dominique Malin, tells us that on October 2nd. He returned to his house to have lunch and he found a window broken and heard step on the floor. In living room he saw that the stereo was switched on and in his kitchen all food had been eaten. So the owner called the police. Then Gary Rickard went on trial.
We are also told that Gary Rickard is definitely a professional burglar: not only did he break the record of bungled burglaries but also he had been convicted 46 times! His behaviour is really weird but also funny because he dares break into a shop while having a broken leg, and he warns passers-by to watch out before a break in.
Judging from his behaviour, we can assume he is a little naïve
