In our opinion, this price hike was prompted by continued geopolitical tensions in Nigeria, worries over Iran’s nuclear program, and the assassination of the Pakistani opposition leader Benazir Bhutto on December 27, as well as cold weather and market speculation. Moreover, we view WTI crude’s breach of the $100 level as largely symbolic, for several reasons. First, WTI oil traded above $90 for
