How to sustain innovations? And how to support entrepreneurial behavior in an established company with high degree of institutionalized rules? Innovations are often the result of an entrepreneurial behavior.
To answer to these questions, I would like to put the emphasis on people. On the one hand, I would like to focus on people who make the company and on the other hand I would like to focus on people with whom the company interacts (the suppliers and the customers). People should be the most important resource of any established company.
First, inside the company, a way to sustain innovation is to invest in people’s idea by allowing interactions between people at each stage of the company. Not only between the different department (marketing, finance, technical, R&D, HR etc) but also from the bottom to the top (between top managers and employees). Gathering people from different backgrounds generates ideas, creativity and innovations. Through real (meeting) and virtual (forum, blog, social networks) collaborative platforms, people from different background can interact with each other. Furthermore, it gives the opportunity to anyone in the company to formulate his own ideas through for example the” suggestion box”. Besides, it gives a meaning to the work and it creates synergy between people through the diversity. From the point of view of this company, that means that it should decrease the degree of institutionalized rules and it should promote coordination instead of direction.
