“Moebius Transe Form”

The last Saturday, during my Parisian weekend, I have booked 2 hours in order to visit an exhibition that took place at the foundation Cartier. Being attracted by the universe of comics and movies, I tried at first to find an exhibition corresponding to this passion and I discovered the exhibition of Jean Giraud.
Jean Giraud is a recognized artist all over the world for his participations in directors' movies as Ridley Scott, James Cameron or still Luc Besson. He began his career under the pen name Moebius. It is one of the precursors of the modern drawn strips and worked in particular for the group Marvel. It is also one of the only draftsmen of comics known in Japan, which is the capital of the modern drawn strip. His style can be disgraces as fantasy or science fiction (silver surfer…)

The visit was cut in various rooms and various universes:
The stcnography allows us to discover at the first floor boards and original covers of Blueberry and Arzach . Then we are driven towards the basement, here, we are surrounded with drawings, acrylic, oil etc. We can observe that his works are of an incredible originality. We find a series of small sketches on the fauna of Mars.

Following the artist’s wishes, this exhibition explores the theme of metamorphosis, a leitmotif that runs throughout his comics, drawings, and film projects. In relation to this theme, the exhibition also presents the first 3-D animated film directed by the artist “La Planète encore” along with the stories from the original comic boards. With landscapes and characters in perpetual transformation, his drawings explore the boundaries of the unconscious and reveal an imaginary and fantastic world. Through often sudden and disturbing metamorphoses of a character or a setting, Mœbius reveals a world where appearances are not as stable as they may seem.
