Another Brick in the Wall is actually the title of three parts, subtitled Reminiscing, Education and Drugs. They are all from the album The Wall, which was recorded and relaised in 1979. It's a concept album, which means that all the songs are unified by a same narrative and lyrical theme.
Another Brick in the Wall has become one of the most famous Pink Floyd songs. Everyone has ever heard it, but what is its meaning ?
The three parts are regularly ponctuated by the sentence «We don't need no education, we don't need no thought control.» Indeed, it's a protest song against rigid schools in general and against cruel teachers that the narrator or song writer met in his childhood. However, wen can infer from the double negative of «don't» and «no» that they cancel each other out, producing an affirmation and suggesting that education actually could be a good thing in developing, for example, personal reflexion. Likewise, this double negative acts as a litote in this context, as if the narrator was saying «We don't need this type of education». Therefore, the song is not so much about complete revolution. It's just a criticism againt the types of teachers and the acadamec system, which is criticized by the song writer for his conformity. Indeed, he thinks that his school teachers produced social clones without any imaginative thought. The other sentence which is often appearing is «All in all it's just another brick in the wall, all in all you're just another brick in the wall ». It's an allusion to Pink, the main character of the story telling
