The honors project contract will “honorize” the following course which is Art Appreciation. This honors project will help me to improve some skills required for this class, such as: identifying works
of
major
artists
in
a
variety
of
media, describing
the
techniques in a variety of art media, developing a formal
analysis
of
a
work
of
art, evaluating the importance of form in relationship to content, and recognizing
the
major
periods
of
world art history. My project will be a traditional research paper with MLA format. The main topic of my project will be The Renaissance. Renaissance means rebirth in French. It was a rebirth in knowledge. The Man became the center of attention in every field from art to sciences. Indeed, science and the arts were becoming more important. Christopher Columbus discovered America, Michelangelo was painting the Sistine Chapel, and William Shakespeare was writing his famous plays. In my project I will only focus on the visual art media such as paintings. In my introduction, I will explain why we call it Renaissance, what were it impact and what happened during this period. I will also explain why it changes from Byzantine and Middle Ages Period. My thesis statement will be the influence of society on the Italian and Northern Renaissance visual art subjects. In this paper, I will explain how the society itself , its politic, economy, philosophy and science for example, will influence the painters from The Italian and Northern Renaissance. Then, I will take for each Renaissance some famous paintings which will depict this influence. For example, in the first part, I will explain how the philosophical school of Humanism, the seeking for sciences (mathematics) influenced Italian renaissance painters. In order to show this I will for instance take Leonardo da Vinci, Brunelleschi, Aberti and Michelangelo and show in their paintings the influence of mathematics ( their perspectives is based on Euclidian theories), and humanism ( the portray
