Wounded knee
What is wounded Knee
The wounded Knee massacre happened in United-States of America( more precisly in South Dakota), on december 29, 1890.
The white settlement of America followed an orderly pattern. Traders shared ressources with the native population, often intermarrying. Settlers divided and fenced the land, pushing the native peoples out. Some procedures were developed: settlers proposed a treaty at indians, they promise great benefits in return for land, and resisters were bribed or coerced. Violations of treaty provisions, forced further new treatles. The cycle was never-ending. Natives Americans found themselves concentrated into smaller areas.
Fearing for the safety of his 120 men, and 230 women and children, Big Foot, a chief of Lakota tribe and some of his men moved toward a military group, carrying a white flag of truce. Assured by the cavalry Major Samuel M. Whiteside that there would be no fighting if Big Foot's band surrendered their weapons and came under military control, Big Foot agreed to the terms and accompanied the soldiers to their camp near Wounded Knee Creek.
The army and Big Foot moved away toward Wounded Knee. The travel-weary, hungry Lakota set up camp in the late afternoon. Two Hotchkiss guns were placed at the crest of the hill overlooking the Lakota camp. Sentinels encircled the camp, with special guards in the ravine to the east of the Lakota. Whiteside was taking no chances that the Lakota would slip away in the night. Late in the evening the rest of the 7th Cavalry Regiment arrived, bringing two more Hotchkiss guns.
This force was arrayed against Big Foot's 350-400 people. Big Foot's band was surrounded by 7th Cavalry Regiment. The massacre
