Etude en anglais de harold & maude
Harold and Maude is an american film released in theaters in 1971. This movie directed by Hal Ashby tells the story of an unu- sual couple in the 60s, living near the coast in the United States. Harold, a 20 years-old young man (played by Ruth Gor- don) lives comfortably with his mother. Obsessed with death, he constantly interprets the staging of his own death (we note the excel- lent performance of the actor, very theatrical). Harold has no social life. He does not know the real life. He likes to go to the waste collec- tion center, and to burial ceremo- nies. It is in this last place he meets Maude ... Maude (played by Bud Cort) is an elderly woman, idealist and militant, out of step with the social conventions of her time. In- deed, she lives isolated, in a wagon (in reference to her origins, her de- portation during the Second World War). This old woman is an extro- vert (very lively and active), eccen- tric (she collects strange objects ...) values freedom, peace and nature.
Together, they share some unusual moments: the theft of a public tree, walks in the waste collection center, in the fairgrounds, or in the ceme- teries. Despite their age difference, they are accomplice. Gradually, their feelings turn into a strong love: they want to finish their lives together, the rest of the world or other people are of no importance to them.
Among these, for example, there is Mrs Chasen, Harold's mother. Constantly in the representation, dressed in costume, she is strict but also hysterical. She wants to lead Harold in social norms, in bourgeois normality. For this, she wants to take care of his appearance (she gives him a nice car), control his love life (by or- ganizing meetings). Without success, she sought help from Uncle Victor to educate Harold. He is a stereotype of an army survivor. His ridiculous absence of arm accentuates his cha- racter's absurdity. He embellished his war stories, like a hero.
