Etude wvc
On the one hand this case deals with problems of production, maintenance, and management of WVC. On the other hand, it handles B2B issues between WVC and Western Foundry.
Firstly, we are going to analyse this company and to highlight its problems. Then we will suggest solutions in order to improve the functioning of this one. Finally, I will give my own opinion on this situation.
The first problem is about the process of operation. In fact, it seems that there are too many steps and some of them could be removed. The management of this process needs to be enhanced as well as the planning of processing. Moreover, purchasing is divided in four sections and that requires a better communication between them. Then, the MRO supplies have to be very effective.
Besides, the maintenance plans have to be improved. Indeed, this one is not efficient and each of its two parts needs to be enhanced. In the first maintenance step, too many pumps and majors pieces are taken out of service. This situation generates lots of set up time and set up cost. As regards the second maintenance program, it is totally useless. In fact, the production stops every eighteen months and during a relative long period. It’s an important weakness of this company because during few time they don’t produce anything and it leads to a lack of customers.
Another significant problem is the way to choose the bidders. In this case the maintance parts buyer,Jan, solicits four different bids but he makes his choice for only delivery delay reasons. That is why the analyse of the outsourcing has to be improved.
In addition, the representative of Western assures Jan that his firm could easily meet her, but she never uses this way to supervise the progress of the maintenance.
Furthermore there is no denying that it is unacceptable for the Western company to call Jan only four weeks before the scheduled delivery for the castings.
We have just seen the different
