Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was born on 18th July 1918 in Mvezo (Union of South Africa) and died on 5th December 2013 in Johannesburg. It was a South African statesman. It was one of the leaders of the struggle against the political system of racial segregation (apartheid).

Nelson Mandela joined the African National Congress (ANC) in 1944. Became a lawyer, he participated in non-violent struggle against apartheid laws.

On 5th August 1962 , he was arrested by the South African Police, indicated by the CIA and sentenced to prison and hard labor for life at the Rivonia Trial . So, it becomes a symbol of the struggle for racial equality and has a growing international support .

After twenty- seven years' imprisonment in often harsh , and after refusing to be free to stay consistent with his convictions, Mandela is released on 11th February 1990 .

In 1993, he received the Nobel Peace Prize for peacefully ending the apartheid regime.Nelson Mandela became the first black president of South Africa in 1994. It has a policy of national reconciliation between blacks and whites ( President of the Republic of South Africa from 1994 to 1999. )

After a single term, he retired from active politics , but continues to publicly support the African National Congress. (ANC)
Subsequently involved in several associations fighting against poverty and AIDS , it remains a world personality heard about human rights and is hailed as the father of a multiracial South Africa and fully democratic.
