The city of San Francisco is built in the top of a peninsula which closes the bay of San Francisco, on hills which dominate the Pacific. San Francisco is the fourth biggest city of California, on the west coast of the United States, after Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Jose. The city counted 739.426 inhabitants in 2005. San Francisco is the densest American city in population after New York. The main symbols of the city are Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, Transamerica Pyramid, Coit Tower and cable buses. It is also known for its gay district and for its hills. There are more than 50 hills within city.

San Francisco is famous for the fog which enters in the bay from June to September, in particular, the morning.
It’s why the Golden Gate Bridge is often masked by a thick layer of cotton.
The climate is influenced by the cold currents of the Pacific Ocean, creates foggy conditions that blanket the city during summer.
The four seasons are slightly different because temperatures vary between 9°C in January and 18°C in August. Yet, the differences in temperature can be high in a single day because the nights are very cold.
Annual rainfall is low (about 500mm) with a period of rain which runs from December to March.
In spring and summer, the days are very sunny but rarely hot with the wind. Unfortunately, it is impossible to bathe in San Francisco because the water is icy, cold current of California requires.
