Commentaire d'anglais sur martin luther king
Martin Luther King was born in January 1929, and he had been assassinated in April 1968. He was an American clergyman, and he’s famous to be an iconic figure in advancement of civil rights, but also to use nonviolent methods to prove that black people must have the same rights than white people. During the 60’s, he fought for liberty, equality and freedom. He fought against racial segregation and racial discrimination, and he had an impact because few years after his dead, the black people were equal. King is most famous for his « I Have a Dream » speech, given in front of the Lincoln Memorial during the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. This speech is one of the best in the world.
At the beginning of his speech Martin Luther King said « Five score years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the Emancipation Proclamation. » Lincoln proclaimed in 1863 the freedom of the slaves, and King consulted it to give more strength to his speech. But he also used others references as : “ I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.”, from the declaration of Independence. Which was one of the most famous event in United states of America. As he used those references, he wants to show and make understand all the American citizen that Black people are just like White ones.
On the one hand we can see that he is using the alliteration “I have a dream”. This alliteration made us focus on an America without racism, a country without any judgments. On the other hand, he is using a crescendo to emphasize his speech. The “I have a dream” from the beginning becomes “I have a dream today”. The meaning of the “Today” is that he wanted a change right from the day he gave his speech. At last King didn’t know that he would be assassinated five years later,
