In most supermarket, the first area at the enter at the right is the dwell zone but our supermarket is located in town center so there are so many competitores like Fnac which are not very far and which have a wide choice at cut-price. The supermarket can't compete with there specialized shops. So intermarché need to make a selection to achieve highest sales, to find the most lucrative niche: what is judicious area to put here? So intermarché had examined these operating margins for each department. These main customers are women, the hygiene and beauty section are the most profitable, generating 25% of the turnover. The area is divided in two parts: the bargain bins which include the seasonal products like the sunsreen cream in summer and the hand cream in winter and in a other part the base products.

It's the supplier who chose the range of products of clothes and the merchandising of this area. It was an essential condition to conclude a business with this provider. This example shows us the power imbalance between supplier and buyers' market.
