Interraciality in TV series
Introduction
TV is a powerful way to communicate but it is sometimes difficult to find the truth inside a lot of events.
A lot of people watch TV series all around the world and sometimes, they do not even notice that they can be influenced by some prejudices.
Thus, beyond the will of entertain, what are the ideas carried by such kind of series especially regarding multiculturalism?
We are going to compare American TV series ‘Criminal Minds’ to French TV series ‘Profilage’ to evaluate the impact of our apprehension of a country.
I-The TV series
First of all, and in a way to be as precise as possible, I have to explain what the TV series are in a general way.
‘Criminal Minds’ is a series that follows a team from the FBI’ Behavioral Analysis Unit (the BAU) at Quantico in Virginia. They all are profilers and that is why they are focusing on the criminal (murderer, kidnapper…) instead of the crime itself (the way the crime is committed is significant combined with other facts to find the criminal).
‘Profilage’ is a French TV series which takes place in Paris. The commander of the homicide bureau, Matthieu Pérac, has just learned that, from now on, he will have to work with Chloé Saint-Laurent, a talented and amazing criminologist.
