My subject deals with the African National Congress. Members founded the organization on 8th January 1912 to increase the rights and freedoms of the black South African population.
So, the ANC is a national liberation movement.
PART ONE: HISTORY AND EVOLUTION OF THE ANC
For nine decades, ANC has led the struggle against racism and oppression, organizing mass resistance, mobilizing the international community and taking up the armed struggle against apartheid.
Today, it deems itself as a social democratic force of national liberation in the post apartheid era. Besides, The ANC is a member of the socialist international.
The ANC was banned from 1960 to 1990 by the white South African government. There were protest and banning, violent political resistance.
Until 1994 South Africa was ruled by a white minority government. The white government which came to power in 1948 enforced a separation of races with its policy called Apartheid. It dictated that blacks and white communities should live in separate areas, travel in different buses and stand their own queues.
After the Abolition of Apartheid, The Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) was created . Witnesses who were identified as victims of gross human rights violations were invited to give statements about their experiences, and some were selected for public hearings.
The commission brought forth many witnesses giving testimony about the secret and immoral acts committed by the Apartheid Government, the liberation forces including the ANC, and other forces for violence.
Nelson Mandela is a former President of South Africa, the first black to be elected in a fully representative democratic election. Mandela was an anti apartheid activist and the leader of the ANC.
Mandela supported reconciliation and negotiation and helped lead the transition towards multi racial democracy in South Africa.
