INTRODUCTION:
Steiff is a German teddy bear founded in 1880 by "Margarete Steiff". At first it was felt supply store. Toys have been manufactured later. The famous teddy bear was created in 1902. We recognize these teddy bears to their button in the ear and the associated flag, as well as a plate, located on the chest. Thereafter, Steiff toys have become high priced collector's items.
In 2004, Steiff was outsourcing part of the production to China to reduce its production costs. But, the company shifted back to Europe in 2008. The official reasons were: long delivery times, high employee turnover and not expected quality.
We ask ourselves what were the problems encountered and how we can solve these problems?
To answer that, initially, we will explain the corporate culture of the Germans.
In a second step, we will explain the national culture and corporate culture of China.
Then we will explain and analyze the problems encountered in order to propose solutions to these problems.
We will finish this analysis with a conclusion.
Corporate culture of Germany and of Steiff:
Germans have a very high quality vision. Indeed, they are perfectionist and they love the job well done. German plants generally manufacture quality products; see the reputation of German brand cars. This quest for perfection is in a great majority of German factories and the business of handicrafts. So, Germans have a high quality crafts. The trademark Steiff does not escape this culture, because this company is part of a culture of high quality and Steiff is focused on quality.
