Jacques Chirac succeeded in aligning people and he liked to communicate with people. He was close to French citizens. He attached importance to meet and talk with people in the different cities of France. For example he had a strong link with farmers, his passion for the farming show, it was the symbol of this relationship. He succeeded in gather people around him, for example the Corrèze region didn’t vote for the right political party before the election in 1995, Chirac managed to convince people thanks to his social skills.
He has got an image of someone who enjoys good food, wines, and life in general, he promoted the French culture. He used to go on walkabouts and shake hands, for instance during a visit in Jerusalem, he was very angry against his bodyguards because he couldn’t approach people. Furthermore, he had good relationship with the others presidents. He has social skills among others leader’s qualities.
A leader has many qualities and skills to reach his objectives. One of the most important is the determination and the motivation to go to the top, in spite of difficulties.
During his political career, Jacques Chirac has shown that he had these necessary skills. He started his career during the presidency of Georges Pompidou, in 1965, without experience. However, Jacques Chirac was successful in Corrèze, the place where he was born. With his motivation and his dynamic view of policy, he reached his objectives, become the leader of Corrèze, in spite of his lack of experience and his political opponents. In 1974, after the death of Georges Pompidou, he decided to support Valery Giscard d’Estaing. His work and his determination made possible the election of Giscard d’Estaing. With his motivation, he rallied many political personalities against his main opponent, Jacques Chaban-Delmas. Jacques Chirac was the architect of Giscard d’Estaing’s victory. He became one of the most famous leaders in the Right.
