The country we chose is Kenya. We are gonna talk about the History of the country, the geography and the economy, the spoken languages, the politic and some basic facts.

Paleontologists believe people may first came to Kenya about 2 million years ago. Around the 700s, some Arab seafarers established settlements along the coast. The Portuguese took control of the area around 1500s.
In 1890, the land became a British protectorate and in 1920 it became a crown colony.
In 1952, it was the Mau Mau movement. This was some Kiyuku militants rebelled against the governement. The fight lasted until 1956.
In 1963, on December 12, Kenya achieved full independence.

Kenya lies across the equator in east-central Africa on the coast of the Indian Ocean. Kenya is borded by Somelia to the east, Ethiopia to the north, Tanzania to the south, Uganda to the west and Sudan to the northwest. Kenya is twice the size of Nevada. The land is arid in the north, in the southwest corner, the land is fertile. The capital is Nairobi. The total area is about 582 650 square km. Kenya enjoys a tropical climate, at the coast, it’s hot and humid, it’s very dry in the north and the northeast parts of the country. Between March and May there is a lot of rain.
In Africa, Kenya has one of the worst performing economies. Between 1974 to 1993 the economic performence of Kenya declined. Form 1991 to 1993, Kenya had its worst economic performance since independence. In 1993, the governement of Kenya bagan a major programme of economic reform.

The official languages spoken in Kenya are English and Swahili. Swahili is spoken as a first language only by 0.5 % of the population and it is a second language for at least 12 million person. Even if it’s not the first language of
