Hello, my name is Carissa and I'm going to analyse « Eveline ». To begin with, the short story is an exerpt from the novel « Dubliners » written by James Joyce in 1914, so at the beginning of the first world war. The irish author is considered to be one of the most influential writers in the modernist advence guard of the early twentieth century. He wrote stories centered around charaters in Dublin who were dealing with the issues of the time period for example the Great Irish Famine (1845–1849), were about one million people died and another million emigrated. The story illustrates the social conditions that women in Ireland faced in the latter years of the nineteeth century.

Then, we may wonder, what is for Eveline a better life, more precisally, what are her dreams?
First of all, it is important to mentionned that Eveline is the substitut mother of her family. She works full time, but she doesn't get enough money to live properly because it goes all for the house hold. She took care for all her family but not for her. This is the reason why she wanted to leave her home. She is only nineteen, so very young and she wanted to fell like a woman at her age. Eveline is in the springtime of life and the only things she does all day long are for example, cooking, washing, working in the Stores. So everyting what a woman at the age of about thirty does, but not at the age of nineteen. To fell free and liberated she has a plan. It is to
