The summary in English
The President of the French Republic, Nicolas Sarkozy, made an official visit to Kazakhstan on 6 October 2009. During which, 24 contracts of a total value of 6 billion dollars were signed for the development of strategic, economic and investment partnership.
At the meeting an agreement was achieved to accelerate the putting into effect numerous common projects in nuclear sector, energy, transport, armament and so on. France is eager to take part in the construction of the oil pipeline Eskene- Kuryk. It is a crucial contrivance, representing the most important transport route for carrying Kazakh Caspian oil to the global market. The French nuclear firm AREVA is also taking part in the partnership by producing uranium in Kazakhstan and creating a joint venture with a Kazakh company KazAtomProm to create parts for Airbus aircraft at the local titanium and magnesium plant.
France and Kazakhstan are also cooperating in the high technology sector. The EADS corporation is charged of the implementation of large scale projects in the area of space, including the project to create an assembly and test facility and an Earth observation satellite system.
