New York City is located in North America. Even though New York City is the biggest city in the U.S.A, it is neither the capital city of the U.S.A nor the capital city of Albany. A few people are making a mistake to think that New York is the capital of the state of the New-York.

New-York city is called « The Big Apple » because this is a town where people have fun : rumour has it that inhabitants never sleep ! It is such an amazing town !

This town is divided into 5 boroughs which are Manhattan, Queen’s, Staten Island, Brooklyn and the Bronx. Streets run from West to East and Avenues run from North to South.

The bridge which links Staten Island to Brooklyn was named after Giovanni Da Verrazzano.
In the middle of Manhattan, there is a big world famous park which is called Central Park. People are roller blading, jogging or just enjoy having a walk.

Unfortunately, on 9/11 2001, a terrorist attack took place on the Twin Towers : indeed two planes crashed into the Towers. The Twin Towers used to be one of the emblems of N.Y.C.

In the middle of New York Bay, there is an island which is called Liberty Island where is situated The Statue Of Liberty. It was offered by France to America in 1876 which refers to the 100th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
The Statue of Liberty was designed by the architect Bartholdi and it was built by the engineer Gustave Eiffel.
This Statue is a woman, so it is a symbol of femininity and motherhood.
The Statue Of Liberty is so gigantic that it was the first thing the immigrants saw when they arrived in Ellis Island.

Before being a museum, Ellis Island used to be an immigration center : all immigrant had to stay in quarantine to be sure that they are not coming with deseas. Now, the center has been shut down, so it is not working anymore.
Ellis Island is also named the Gate to Promised Land which is both a symbol of happiness and hope.
