Globalisation and schooling development
« Globalization is the rapid increase of cultural, economic, social, industrial and technological exchanges in the whole world. » Some people think that this phenomenon benefits only rich countries. Multinationals, like European or American companies, employ low paid workers who do not have social welfare and work in bad conditions. That is the main idea of the opponents of globalization. But we can also say that globalization contributes a lot to the economic and social development of southern countries such as African or Asian countries. Investments of rich countries have allowed decrease of the poverty rate of developing countries for the last thirty years. The positive effects of globalization have not touched every region in the world.
In this essay, I would like to talk about the gap between the schooling in developing and developed countries. So we may wonder if the help brought by rich countries is really useful for poor countries and if globalization increases the schooling level in the modern hemisphere.
More than capital flows, globalization allows people to travel and choose where they want to live. In rich countries, students have to travel in foreign countries to learn a foreign language. For example, they can do their internship abroad. Today it’s necessary to speak English, Spanish, French, German or Chinese fluently because companies are looking for employees able to deal with every customer or supplier, foreigner or not. Trade barriers have been lowered thanks to globalization. For example, a French company can do business with a Chinese company.
We can also say that there is a competition between the most famous and prestigious schools and colleges in the whole world. Students have to adapt themselves and their skills to globalization. To be competitive on the international labor market.
Globalization is also the fact that rich countries can relocate their companies
