1. See the colour of somebody's money
This expression means that you want to make sure that the person has enough money in order to pay you before you accept to do something.
For example we can say: “I want to see the colour of his money before delivering goods he has ordered”

This expression means that you are in a situation that you feel ill-at-ease because you are in a situation that you don’t know or in a unfamiliar surroundings.
