Should the police be allowed to listen to citizens’ phone conversations to improve national security?
Nowadays, people are more and more spying by the police and other organization like the CIA. They had to protect their country and the citizens. But is spying really a good way to protect citizens’ lives? Should the police be allowed to listen to citizens’ phone conversations to improve national security? There are no doubt some cases in which spying can help the police to protect citizens, but there are more drawbacks to listen to citizens’ phone conversation. We will see those advantages and drawbacks.
On the one hand, I can’t help thinking that there are cases in which spying is useful.
Let us begin with the example of a former prisoner, if he represents a danger or if the police have doubts about his attentions, I think that the police should be allowed to listen to citizens’ phone conversations. Actually, it prevents the former prisoner to reoffend. In other words, it enables to improve national security.
Furthermore, allowing the police to listen to citizens’ phone conversation is a good way to improve the national security because the police can be aware if someone plots something like a bombing. It enables to uncover terrorists because they often are like the other citizens.
Finally, phone conversations can be records. They often constitute a piece of evidence for the police indeed! Besides it is very important to have proof if the police want to arrest someone or make an allegation. We saw it; there are some cases in which, spying is very useful for the police. It enables to improve national security.
