History of nevada

Before the first settlers will move into the region of Nevada, it was populated by Indian tribes, including the Washoe, the Paiutes, the Shoshones and Bannocks. Nevada remained virtually unknown until the early expeditions carried out by the Spaniards. It seems that these early Spanish explorations in the region began around 1776. Then the trappers and traders, including Jedediah Smith and Peter Skene Ogden, entered the Nevada area during the 1820s. For its part, Spain was not doing anything to occupy or control what is now Nevada, a region virtually terra incognita huge and there was no permanent European population and the territory was considered barren, arid and inhospitable.

After Mexico had won its war of independence against Spain in 1821, he exercised any control once the former Spanish territory, including what is commonly called the "Southwest." In fact, Mexico was theoretically the territory, because the new state has no more than Spain sent a permanent population. Trappers, explorers, emigrants, traders, drivers passed herds, but none stopped.

The territory was ceded to the United States in 1848 when the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo Treaty. Immediately annexed by the U.S. government, Nevada grew haphazardly around for a few years of mining. With the gold rush, Nevada became a thoroughfare bound to the west coast of the United States. In 1849, Mormon settlers, from Salt Lake City, had founded a trading post in the Carson River valley. Subsequently, the discovery of mines of gold and silver caused a massive influx of adventurers, the Indians tried in vain to repel.

In 1864, Nevada became the 36th U.S. state. After the completion in 1869, the transcontinental railroad (Central Pacific Railroad), cattle and sheep became increasingly important in the regional economy. The mines eventually run out in the early 1880s, which led to the departure of thousands of people. Two decades of recession succeeding twenty years of prosperity.
