Child labour : how you can help ?
Introduction :
This is a paper document which consists of a text and a picture showing a young girl rescued 10 year-old rug worker. It is extracted from the Toronto Star a Canadian newspaper.
The document is entitled Child labour : How you can help? And it is about child workers rescued from carpet factories. It was written by Tanya Roberts-Davis who maked the photo.
To present you this document, I will explain the causes of children’s slaving work in a first point, then , I’ll show the consequences and to finish, I’ll suggest solutions.
The causes :
The children work is more often a survival strategy for the poor population who mostly needs jobs and resources.
In Nepal, there are laws prohibiting child labor, but the practice remains regular and culturally acceptable though illegal, this is why children are a labor cheap and their little hands are helpful in the carpets factories.
The consequences :
All this at the expense of schooling because for their parents, these children have more chance of a future career when he worked early, rather than make studies without guarantees of employment.
Moreover, the main motivation for employing children is economic, a child is less expensive, more docile than adults, with a cheap salary which reduces the salary costs. It is about exploitation by companies who make them work for hours, and I quote : “I used to weave carpets from 5 o’clock in the morning until 10 o’clock at night” which actually degrades their health physically as psychologically. The only positive consequence is the increase in living standards of families.
The solutions :
However, many solutions can be made to this problem. We could reduce poverty by increasing employment, a best quality of education is what makes Rugmark, I quote again : “If inspectors find child workers who want to attend the Rugmark School, the parents are asked for permission and the job is offered to another family member”
