Newspaper Landscape: According to a 2006 census (UAE interact website), the current UAE population reaches 4.1 million people; of this it can be assertedthat at least 58%, according to the CIA world factbook (CIA website), is non-Arab. Therefore, the newspaper market in the UAE can be divided into two distinct worlds: the English newspapers and theArabic ones. As the population significantly grew over the years, so did the newspaper market. As it is stated in Gulf News, “The UAE likes to read. Nearly 90 per cent of the country’s population accessessome form of print publication” (_Gulf News_ website). In order to match the high and various demand, Arabic and English newspapers kept on being created.
The most popular English newspapers in theGulf get their success from the simplicity of their layout and variety of their topics.
There is a large variety of newspapers in the UAE, but only a few have their regular readership and thereare only a few important players in the newspaper market. Some of them belong to the Abu Dhabi Media Company, some others belong to the Al Nisr Media Group and finally, three important newspapers areowned by the influential Arab Media Group (AMG).

Emarat Al Youm is a daily newspaper in Arabic that was launched in September2005, and a new edition was relaunched on January 2008 under direction from international media consultants. The newspaper is divided into two major sections. The first one focuses on newsfrom Dubai and Sharjah, and the second one on news for Abu Dhabi and Al Ain (Arab Media Group website). The newspaper itself consists of a 48-pages format in Arabic and offers an eclecticcollection of national and international news, business, sport, entertainment and lifestyle-based content.
