McDonald's firm is a multinational company wich owns over 31 000 franchises fast food restaurants under the McDonald's brand, in 121 countries, including 1134 in France and more than 12 000 in the United States. The company owns or has stakes in other restaurant chains, such as Aroma Café, Boston Market, Chipotle Mexican Grill, Donatos Pizza (since December 2003) and Prêt à Manger.
McDonald's primarily sells hamburgers, cheeseburgers, chicken products, french fries, breakfast items, soft drinks, shakes, and desserts. In response to obesity trends in Western nations and in the face of criticism over the healthiness of its products, the company has modified its menu to include alternatives considered healthier such as salads, wraps and fruit.
McDonald’s History :
• 1937 : The brothers Richard and Maurice McDonald opened a hot dog stand called “Airdome” in Arcadia, California.
• 1940 : The two brothers moved their “Airdome” (including building) in San Bernardino (California) and renamed it "McDonald's restaurant". It became a place of rendezvous very popular for young people and very profitable for its owners.
• 1948 : After noticing that most of their income came from hamburgers, the brothers closed their "restaurant" for several months to develop an innovative system of quick service.
The contractor and seller of the milkshake machine, Ray Kroc, was fascinated when he heard their extraordinary profitability and popularity. After seeing the system in operation, Kroc met the McDonald brothers, who had already begun to franchise. He proposed to them to let him franchise the system, with him as the first franchisee. Kroc worked hard to sell McDonald's system.
