The Statue of Liberty

The statue of Liberty is located in New York, it is one of the most famous monuments of the United States. It represents liberty. It was built by Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi in 1886, helped by Gustave Eiffel which made the structure of the statue. It was offered by France, in sign of friendship between the two nations to celebrate the centennial of the American Declaration of Independence.
The statue represents a woman, wearing a wide dress and a crown with 7 points like the 7 continents (North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, Oceania, Antarctic) or like the 7 oceans (Arctic, Antarctic, North Atlantic, South Atlantic, North Pacific, South Pacific, Indian). In its left hand, it holds the Declaration of Independence.
In 1916, it was damaged by the Germans, and then in 1980, it was renovated. During the Cold War, the statue has appeared on propaganda posters as symbol of liberty. From the attacks of 11 September 2001, the statue was closed to the public, it isn’t possible to go up 354 steps that go to the head and the crown of the statue. But we can yet visit the museum located in the base of the statue.
In the cinema, she made many appearances.
We can find many replicas in France, in the United States, but also in Australia, in Germany, in Brazil, in China, in Italy, in Japan and in Vietnam.
It is facing at the Atlantic Ocean, it is the first vision of the United States for immigrants.

I have chosen that theme because the statue of liberty is known all over the world. It represents a great value : Liberty and a great country : the United States.
